Random Wax: 1990 Donruss (3 Packs)

1990 Donruss:  This card is one of my favorites.  I love the Diamond Kings from this era and this one hits all the marks.  I love the Dave Stewart smile/art and 1990 Donruss is a favorite of mine as is Stewart.
Dave Winfield and Roberto Alomar Jr. are both Hall of Famers who also won a World Series together in 1992 as members of the Toronto Blue Jays.  I am a big fan of this set even though there is no team logo.
I didn't realize Ozzie had been voted as high as #2 for MVP in any year.  I like the career highlights Donruss cards gave us on these backs.
The MVP cards are the one misstep in this set.  That bland green MVP background does nothing for me.  We do get another good Dave Stewart card.
Lots of memories and great players in these packs.  Ozzie wound up with over 2400 hits in his Hall of Fame career playing for San Diego and the Cardinals for 19 seasons.  Looking at these is a fun way to spend an offseason day.

  1. I always liked the red of this set, but never the paint splatter. Too messy!

    1. It does feel like a random way to color the border.

  2. Dave Stewart smiling looks weird to me, since he's known so well for that stare he has on the MVP card...

    1. You're right. Intense Dave Stewart is who we really know. But I like him smiling here and like most players their off field persona isn't always what we see or know.

  3. The Stewart DK wins it.
Though I did see Hayes play all three OF positions in the same game at the Stick.

  4. Painful memories for me… can’t remember if I really hated the Red, or if it just reminds me of how much I had of it and how much I hated the cheap and plentiful nature of it, and that I kept buying it long after I had a compete set instead of buying 1990 Leaf instead

    1. LOL You weren't the only one who had waaay to much of this brand. I am just lucky and didn't grow the disdain for it you did.

  5. The Stewart is my favorite as well. Love the Diamond Kings subsets of the 80's and early 90's.
