1999 Dart Sabrina The Teenage Witch

1999 SabrinaThis show was definitely a guilty pleasure when I was younger. It ran seven seasons headlined by Melissa Joan Hart.  Yep that's Randy Travis.  Quite a few stars had cameos on the showThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was based off this and is a favorite series of mine which can be found on Netflix.

Sabrina was just fun and didn't take itself too seriously and was a good watch for kids.  And selct adults.  Sabrina lived with her two aunties.
Where there are witches there are wizards.  Dom Delouis.
Good color on the back and nice write-ups.  I like it.
The design...well I guess there isn't one.  At a minimum you have to have a logo somewhere right?   A witches hat?  Wand?  Only six cards in a pack which is a bit disappointing but I find that is fairly common amongst non-sport cards.
Fun cards and fun memories.  Salem the cat is a former warlock turned into a cat after trying for world domination.  A beloved member of the family he talks and is definitely cynical as the back of his card states.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 4

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: I'm a big fan of the show but season 3 was a bit of a let down.  Season 4 started out well for me as I liked it's focus.  Over the course of the season though it started to feel a little lazy.  I'm not saying I didn't like it but it just wasn't on par with the first two seasons.  The characters also seemed to have lost some focus and while present throughout I didn't see the growth you saw previously.  And the ending...  I try not to be negative in reviews and will normally tend not do those that aren't kind.  So again watching it wasn't hard but I definitely didn't find it satisfying in the end.  I still look back on the series as one with great characters that started really well.  This was the final season.  Sorry to see it go but it was time given where it was that is the right decision.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 3

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 3 was released in January and I wanted to give a quick take on what I thought. Season 3 deals with the demise of the Church of Night and it's school Academy of Unseen Arts.  Outside threats from the Pagans and the deposed headmaster threaten everything.  Hell has gone to heck which requires Sabrina's attention.  The season is fast paced with a lot going on.  Maybe too much and the major changes seem to take away some of what we liked in the first two seasons away.  That doesn't mean season 3 isn't good but I didn't find myself enjoying it as much as seasons one and two.  Concentrating on fewer plot lines might have kept it simpler but who knows what you'd lose.  Season 3 was fun to watch but at times it maybe seemed a bit much.  Rumor is season four will be the final season for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Comic Book Vol 1 by Archie Comics

While I love the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina I just now finished Volume one of the comic Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.  And I'm so glad it worked out that way.  The comic is much darker than the Netflix series.  If I'd read this first I doubt I would have watched the series.  The comic really didn't do it for me.  The basic plot points are similar to the Netflix series but the characters here are just not as likable to me and again that goes to how they treat the story.  It is dark, maybe macrbe and definitely something that falls into the horror genre.  If they come out with volume 2 of this I won't read it.  I'm not saying this is bad I'm just saying it isn't for me.  I really like Netflix's take and I'm looking forward to season three next year.  If you are looking for a horror comic and would like a different take on the Sabrina story give this a look.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 - NO SPOILERS

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season two is good but doesn't quite live up to season one of which I'm a big fan.  Season two also takes the series into much darker territory than what we saw in season one.  With character development done this season sees Sabrina going up against all those who plot against her as well as a few surprise antagonists.  This is a fun season with the story going places I didn't expect.  Not all the different threads work for me but it is still good.  Always hard to live up to season one and that's exactly what happens here I think.  Season one was so good.  That's my quick look.  I'm not good at deep dives on movies and TV so I'll stop rambling now.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - Season 1 (No Spoilers)

Netflix did a darker take on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.  Season 1, or part 1 as they seem to call it, is now available to binge watch.  This is a take on the Archie comics series of the same name by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.  I really enjoyed this series of which there are ten episodes.  Each are just over an hour long.  The basic plot is Sabrina is half mortal/half witch and is supposed to make a decision on her path in life (toward full witchdom) on her 16th birthday.  This series shows you the lead up to that decision as well as the aftermath.  Plenty of twists and turns and dark humor keep the series entertaining.  I definitely look forward to season 2 and I believe it will come out spring/early next year.

Sabrina has plenty of supporting characters to help the series succeed to include her inner circle of friends from high school, her two aunts who have raised her, a cousin, her familiar Salem and of course all the folks from the witching world.

Kiernan Shipka's take on Sabrina is great.  She is a confident girl who while, not always right, knows she wants to be her own women and be on the bright side of life even as a witch.

The only downside to the series for me, and this is a personal thing, is the protagonist/head of the witching world is the devil himself.  As someone whose grown up in the church it is tough seeing him in this light as well as some of the symbolism utilized.  It isn't done in a nefarious way, just as a part of the plot, but it is still a little uncomfortable for me at times.  I'll still watch season 2 but I would have preferred the main baddy be a more generic made-up character.
