Random Wax: 1991 Pro Set Football Series 1 4 Packs

Pro Set Football 1991:   We'll double down with Jim Kelly who also led off last week's 1990 Pro Set post.  Kelly was selected 14th in the 1983 NFL Draft.  Seven (7) Hall of Famers were selected in the 1st round of that draft - John Elway, Eric Dickerson, Jimbo Covert, Bruce Matthews, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Darrell Green.
Pro Set didn't go a completely different direction from their 1990 set in terms of design.  But the tweaks they did worked well giving us another good set.
Great shot as Kevin Greene zeroes in on Chris Miller.
World League, NFL Officials, and Super Bowl XXV Replay cards.  Super Bowl cards with photos/highlights from the game should be a thing every year.  Why don't we see these anymore?  Anthony Parker played 9 seasons in the NFL, with 4 of those as a starter.
Award Winners, Milestone, and NFL Newsreel cards.  I like all of these.  Anytime we can get more variety like these, I'm in.
Actual photo of Bill Belichick saying time out to the Jets when deciding not to take the head coaching job.
Always liked Reggie Cobb and of course I love the Creamsicle unis.
These NFC All-Pro cards are great.  The art is really good and I love seeing All-Pro selections on cards.  Great job Pro Set.  AFC All-Pro selections are found in 1991 Series II.
1990 Replay gives us a look at key moments from the 1990 season.  Another good inclusion in the set.
So much fun looking at these and so many great memories and players.

Random Wax: 1991 Pro Set Football Series 1 4 Packs

1991 Pro Set: I've been posting these four packs at a time for over a year, and it never gets boring.  Another great card here with this sweet Herschel Walker card showing him off in that classic Georgia Bulldogs uni.  He was a 3X All-American, Heisman winner and a National Champion (1980) at Georgia.
Lots of greatness with these three and I'm not just talking about those sweet Oilers unis.  Bruce Matthews - Hall of Fame, 7X All-Pro, 14X Pro Bowl, HOF All-1990s Team.
It so hurts looking back at that Super Bowl but props on Pro Set for giving us highlights from the game on these Super Bowl XXV Replay cards.
Dallas Public Service Announcement, NFL Newsreel and Officials cards.  I know Jim Everett is a Ram, but this subset's name is just that.  I really like that Whitney Houston card.  It was a great moment that I remember.
There was so much that led to this moment being so memorable.
Ray Donaldson was a 6X Pro Bowl selection and won a Super Bowl ring as a Dallas Cowboy.
Man, throwing with that thing on his finger couldn't have been easy.
Heisman Hero, Coach, and World League Football cards are all fun.  Gibbs is not only a Hall of Fame NFL coach but has also won 5 NASCAR Championships as a NASCAR Cup team owner.
6X Pro Bowler Clay Matthews.
I love these NFC All-Pro inserts.  The art is great and there are so many amzing players spotlighted.
Wow there are some great seasons there.  Hall of Fame.  6X Pro Bowl.  5X All-Pro.  HOF 1980s Team. Rookie of the Year.
I always liked Anthony Miller and he and Duper were such great receivers.  These are so much fun and there are so many memories.

Random Wax: 1991 Pro Set Football Series 1 4 Packs

1991 Pro Set:  I followed the Cowboys way back in the day, way before Aikman and company.  Only thing I have left from those days are my appreciation for their blue unis.  Can't argue with Troy Aikman's greatness.  He led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl Championships, won a Super Bowl MVP, was named to the Pro Bowl 6X, and ended up a Hall of Famer.
Some defensive back love.  Great Steve Atwater photo.  In my mind he makes the interception on the ball we can't see.
A horizontal offering on a nice-looking Nick Lowery card.
Lots going on in this set in terms of subsets.  Here we have Heisman Hero, Milestone and 1990 Replay cards.  I do like all three.  The Heisman cards are pretty cool.
These still hurt...
Chan Gailey would go on to head coach in the NFL with Dallas and Buffalo having one winning season with the Cowboys.
We like our head coach cards.
Love the art on the Hall of Fame cards.
Reed led all receivers with 14 receptions in the 1990 playoffs and added two touchdowns.
More great art on these NFC All-Pro team cards.  We need these every year.
We love Barry and he's just as fun in his college uni.
Really good photography and framing across the board.
These cards are just too much fun.  From the great cards, the variety, and fun memories I never get tired of them.

Random Wax: 1991 Pro Set Football Series 1 4 Packs

1991 Pro SetThurman Thomas was such an amazing running back.  He led the league in yards from scrimmage four times.  A Bills legend and I have a Thurman Thomas jersey.
Something about this design, similar to the 1990 set just makes it work.  So simple and even without the team logo it looks good.  I like the Pro Set logos as well.  Not sure why, but it combined with the NFL shield looks good.
Another Bills legend celebrating and Buffalo had a lot to celebrate about in the 90s.
I like the Hall of Fame cards and we also get a Milestone and Award Winner card which I like.  And for some reason we have the team helmets here.  Feels like those would have worked on the base cards though maybe without the colored background behind them.
We all remember Johnny Grier.  Easy to overlook these guys but then when you see their cards, you're like "I remember that guy".
Some of the excellent players from the era.
Chuck Noll is of course the coach of four Pittsburgh Steelers championship teams.
We get World League cards.  That middle card is a Dallas Public Service Announcement insert which includes players from other teams like we see with Ray Childress of the Houston Oilers.  NFL Newsreel cards aren't bad and a good look at a moment in time.
Knoll would retire after the 1991 season with 193 wins.
I love the All-NFC inserts and this art.
Maybe Steve Tasker won't be celebrating this moment but still a fun card.  Another Bill who will never have to buy his own drink in Buffalo.
So many memories here and fun cards.  Like all three of these players and lots of Bills in these packs which is a win for me.  I also get Deion whose name was in the news quite a bit with NFL coaching vacancies.
