Random Wax: 2016 Contenders Football

2016 Contenders Football:  Been a while since I busted a pack of these.  Not my favorite design from this brand but one that has grown on me the more I see it in hand.  Nice seeing retired greats like Bart Starr in these newer sets.  Oddly enough I think he is the only retired great in this base set which totals 100 cards.
Plenty of stars to be found here.  It stinks to see such a great player like J.J. Watt out for the year due to injury.  The Texans should be contenders at the end of the year but his loss won't help that defense that needs all the help it can get.
To remind everyone those numbers are the player's weight, height in inches, and uniform number.
A fun pack.  I won't hesitate when I see Contenders packs so expect more of this brand in the future.

Random Wax: 2016 Contenders Football

I'm a bit more bullish on the 2016 Contenders Football than when I initially looked at these last year.  There were 22 cards in this pack.  This was a discounted pack found at my local Wal-Mart.  For only 22 cards I'd definitely think twice if this pack was at full price.  This pack had plenty of star power which always makes for a fun time.  I'll add Fitz to my personal collection and those Steelers cards are spoken for.  Fun pack even though there may not be anything overly special about it.

2016 Panini Contenders Football Cards

Grabbed a pack of the 2016 Panini Contenders football cards.  I thought I had reviewed these in passed years but it doesn't look like I have.  I normally prefer cards with full photographs including the background but these aren't bad.  The fronts have a photo of the player and include three pertinent stats for the player.  The stats "SEC", "ROW" and "SEAT" instead of what the actual stat is so it wasn't apparent at first what the stats actually are weight, height and jersey number.
I pulled a pertinent number card (5) but had no idea why that number is important to the two players shown on the card (Jordan Howard - Bears and Paul Perkins - Giants).  It says ROUND 5 on the back so I'll assume that means the round they were drafted.  As to the random numbers they decided to display on the front of the cards - I don't get it.  Of all the stats they decided to go with they went with those?  Kind of a letdown.  So I'm ok with the layout and look of the card but overall I'm not that excited about these cards.
