2022 Topps 1987 Topps Baseball 35th Anniversary eBay Finds

2022 Topps: Grabbed some not so random '87 35th Anniversary inserts from the 2022 Topps set on eBay and thought I'd show them off.  Definitely an impulse buy but I found a seller with many of the cards I was chasing so I jumped.  I think the total for these shipped was just over $11.  Big Chipper Jones fan so we'll start with the Braves great.
A couple more Braves.  I still need to pick up the Freddie Freeman as well as a few others I'd like to grab like Rickey, Maddux, Bo and one or two others.  Love seeing retired greats included.
What a career!  Easy Hall of Fame selection when he was inducted in 2018 but he's definitely one of those guys who you wonder what his totals would look like if he had been healthier in the second half of his career.
A couple of great young sluggers in the league.  Hard not to like them both.  I became a Tatis Jr. guy last year when he was mic'd up during the All-Star Game.  Or was it the year before?  Hmmm
The '87 set isn't one of my favorite designs but like some other designs that fall into that category I like it more on new cardboard.
Was really happy to see both of these guys available when I made my purchase.  I'd love to see the Angels do better this season and get Trout and Ohtani in the playoffs.  Same ole story with them.  They need better pitching.  Some of their young players need to step up too and might be ready to on offense.  We'll see.
Short and quick.  Lots to watch today.  NBA playoffs, USFL week one games, baseball and NASCAR on dirt.  Happy Easter!

2018 Favorite Cards

I saw others looking at their favorite cards from the year and I'll do the same here.  Mine are not all from 2018 sets but were cards I pulled or purchased in 2018.  This Paul Hornung autograph from a 2015 Gridiron Kings hobby box that I picked up at a local show.  I'm not a Packers fan so I found a good home for it in the form of a fellow blogger.  Still it is just a cool looking card to me and the coupled with being an autograph of an all-time great this is my favorite card of the year.  Paul Hornung is still alive and did you know his nicknames were Golden Boy or Goat Shoulders?

This Dale Murphy card is a great looking card I picked up for that same card show to have autographed by Murph himself. You can see those posts here.  A lifelong Braves fan I watched Dale Murphy and the Braves starting when he was a rookie catcher.  I still remember him throwing balls into centerfield while throwing to second base on attempted steals.  Atlanta was smart to put his arm to good use in the outfield.  This is a card from Edward Vela who does sketch art of sports and pop culture figures.   I happened across this card while looking for the right card to be autographed and couldn't be happier.

This is just a great looking card.  All that blue from the classic Toronto Maple Leaf jersey and the background made this an instant favorite of mine.  I pulled this from my only pack of the 2018-2019 Upper Deck Hockey.  It isn't often that non action shots wow me but this one managed to do just that.

This Dan Fouts card seems a bit out of place but I pulled it in a January pack of 2017 Playoff Football and combined with being a big fan of Fouts, I love this uniform.  I know everyone else loves the powder blue uniforms but these unis, which were worn from '74 to '84, are what I grew up with and love.
Last but not least this Dustin Pedroia MLB Independence Day US Flag Patch from a 2018 Topps Series 2 blaster.  This is a great looking card and is by far my favorite relic.  Great player, great look.  Love it.
Everyone have a safe and enjoyable New Years Eve!  I can't wait to see what cards 2019 has in store for all of us.

Dale Murphy Autograph - St. Louis Card Show

I had a great time at the one card show I attend every year this last Saturday.  I was so excited because I was able to get Dale Murphy's autograph on this Edward Vela sketch card.  I was first in line and was so excited I was a bit tongue tied but still managed to get out how much fun it was growing up watching him play and how big a fan I was.  For the record I was wearing a Dale Murphy t-shirt.  I haven't gotten an autograph in 30 years but there is no way I was going to miss out on this.

Murph was a huge part of the Braves teams of the eighties.  Murph was so dominant for a time and a two-time MVP.  The World Series starts tonight so it seemed a good post for today even if Murphy never was able to appear in one.
The card show is put on by After the Game, Inc.  The shows are of course St. Louis sports heavy to include signers but they do a good job of bringing folks from other teams in as well.  Over the next couple of weeks I'll start posting my finds from the show which included singles and a few boxes of cards.

Dale Murphy Sketch Card

I ran across this Dale Murphy sketch card by Edward Vela on eBay and decided to give it a shot.  His cards are either auctions or the buy it now variety.  This was the former and while the price started at $4.99 I ended up with it at $10 which was a bit more than I wanted to spend.  Now that I have the card in hand I'm thrilled.  It is a great looking card.  I was specifically looking for a card to have autographed by Murph at a show later this month and this one really stood out to me.  The cards are signed by the artist on the back and this one was numbered 5/50.  These are more of a lithograph than a sketch to me but I'm not concerned about the details.  The artist has plenty of other sketch cards.  Not sure if I'll ever pick up more of his but I do think these are pretty cool cards and wanted to show off this one.
