Random Wax: 2017 Score Football

2017 Score Football:  The 2017 Score base card design really isn't one of Panini's best efforts but Score does do pretty well with inserts.  These packs are great as Patrick Mahomes rookie cards can be found.  None in this pack but there is a Deshaun Watson insert.  Also was this sweet Warren Moon card.  Love seeing him in those Oilers unis.  Nice card and that photo seems to really fill up the card top to bottom.
There are always plenty of rookies in these packs.  While these three weren't hard to figure out I have to look up quite a few just to see who drafted them.  Some of course never really amounted anything or even played in a game.  These three are all names we know though.
Mitch Trubisky will be in a struggle for his job this season but was once thought of as the quarterback ready to take the Bears to the next level.
A couple of parallels as well as Cam Newton who is looking for a new team after getting released by the Panthers.  Assuming he is healthy I think he'll be a really good pickup for someone.
Trent Williams probably on his way out of D.C.  Michael Thomas is maybe the premier receiver in the league right now.  And Sammy Watkins...Super Bowl Champion.
Reflections and Drive Team inserts give us a chance to see retired greats so I'm all for them.  Again inserts reign supreme in this brand.  A fun pack.  Will always look for more of these.

Random Wax: 2017 Score Football

2017 Score Football:  2017 Football is fun to bust thanks to the success of Patrick Mahomes.  I didn't snag him in this pack but it was still a great pack.  Score offers up a large checklist and plenty of inserts so there is something for everyone.  That includes this nice Julio Jones Standout Numbers insert that highlights his 300 yard, 12 catch day on 2 October, 2016 against Carolina.  This was the same day Matt Ryan through for over 500 yards yet somehow he didn't rate one of these insert cards.
A couple of retired greats making appearances is always a good thing.  I like that Namath a lot.  I like the Bradshaw photo and almost wish it didn't get the faded treatment but I get what they were going for.  Richard Sherman will of course be patrolling the secondary for the 49ers trying to win his second NFL championship tomorrow.
A couple of hard luck quarterbacks in Alex Smith and Andrew Luck.  Smith really was good but now it's doubtful he'll ever see the field again after his leg was broken last year.  Andrew luck of course decided to hang it up after battling a myriad of injuries during his career in a shocker before the season started.
Rookies play a big part inthis set and getting to see them in their college unis is great.  Leonard Fournette had a bounce back year with his best year as a pro.  Curtis Samuel has continued to get better each year in the league and topped 50 receptions for Carolina this year.
Eli Manning has retired after what will likely be a Hall of Fame career.
I like Color Rush inserts...I don't like when the uni color is all white.  What sense does that make?
Fitz is a PC guy for me.  I was so rooting him in the 2008 Super Bowl against Pittsburgh.  Watched the highlights of that game this week and it is still hard to watch but what a run they made.  Made me go "wow" pulling that Ryan Shazier card knowing what he went through after that.  That Steelers Drive Team insert now feels 180 degrees different from what it did just a few years ago.  Great pack and tons of fun.  I forget how much I like these.

Random Wax: 2017 Score Football

I haven't opened any 2017 Score football since they first came out so it was a nice surprise finding a discounted pack.  It was a fun break though I do have to say I was thinking it was a bit lackluster until I saw this Patrick Mahomes rookie.  He makes the pack though there is also a few good inserts.
Again my pull was not overly exciting.  Adrian Peterson is definitely the best non-rookie base card I pulled and I'm always happy to see him in a pack.
I do really like the throwback Drive Team insert with PC guy John Elway.  That was a nice surprise.  I really don't like the Steelers' bumble bee unis but I like that Roethlisberger card for some reason.
Defensive backs don't get a lot of love on inserts so the No Fly Zone cards are a nice way of showcasing the defensive backfield stars around the league.
I get New Orleans wore all white for their color rush game but I would think the all color unis would be much better options for the Color Rush cards.  This card has too much white in it for my taste.  Overall a fun pack and I hope and I can find more of these.

2017 Score Football Cards

I like the 2017 Score football cards despite a somewhat busy front. I like the color, team logo and the border.  It all works while not leaving me with the feeling it is at the expense of the photo.  The backs are also nice.  Plenty of color with a photo, logo, minimal stats and write-up.  Lots to like here for me.  I'll definitely pick up some more when I get the chance.  The Christmas season has put a cramp in my card buying budget, all for the greater good of course, but maybe Santa Claus will throw a pack or two into my stocking.
There were 40 cards in this pack and there were plenty of inserts.  There were 13 different inserts in this pack so if you like those this may be a good set for you.
I like the Drive Team insert that had three legends from the Miami Dolphins - Bob Griese Larry Csonka, and Paul Warfield. Not always a fan of these because the photos can be small but I liked this card - a quick nod to great players from a team's past.  I did think the Color Rush cards could be done differently.  These are mostly white cards which seems to me takes away from the whole supposed color theme.  Not sure why but I'm also a fan of the Huddle Up card.
