Godzilla Minus One (2023)

Godzilla Minus One:  This one just hit Netflix and I watched it yesterday.  It's gotten really good reviews and I've been looking forward to it.  I'm a big fan of Godzilla, King Kong and that universe.  Godzilla Minus One is not in that Godzilla - King Kong universe that is ongoing in the states but more along the lines of the classic Godzilla.  

I almost didn't do a post.  I don't like to beat up on movies so I'm telling you to trust the reviews and not me.  But I love the genre and still wanted to say something.  This one just didn't hit the mark with me.  On like any level.  Special effects, dialogue, pacing, story. I'm not saying it isn't a good movie.  I just expected something different.  Godzilla doesn't take center stage here.  The characters and their storyline do.  I went back and read reviews to see what I missed, and folks are just gaga over Godzilla Minus One and a big part of the reason is the story.  So don't take my word for it - listen to others and watch this one.  And tell me what you thought of Godzilla Minus One.  

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)

 Godzilla x Kong: Got to see this one with the grandsons a few weeks back.  I really enjoyed it.  I thought the fights scenes were done really well and were very entertaining.  They've gone all in on the Godzilla and Kong universe.  I'm not saying this is a great movie but it is entertaining.  I think it'd be easy to nick pick the details but it's easy to watch.  There are some key players missing from Team Godzilla to include Millie Bobby Brown.  My favorite movies in the series are their solo movies as well as the Godzilla vs Kong that focused on those two.  That said it's obvious they'd have to advance the story and they did just that.  We'll see where it goes from here.  And for the record the nine-year old grandson really enjoyed it while the six-year old wasn't as dialed in but I think that was more of a him thing.

Godzilla vs Kong (2021) Movie Review (NO SPOILERS)

Godzilla vs Kong: We watched this one over the weekend and loved it.  I'll keep this short and sweet.  We really like this movie.  It was extremely entertaining.  Plenty of fights with the two stars which is all you can ask.  They seemed to have learned after Godzilla (2014) when his screen time was minimal.  I won't ruin anything but there are nods to the Godzilla/King Kong universe of years past.  I highly suggest this one.  It's fun and has plenty of action. 

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

I finally got the chance to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters and I really enjoyed it.  The first movie in this latest reboot of Godzilla was not a movie I liked.  It was just boring.  This movie didn't have that issue.  Plenty of action and we get to see Godzilla face off with some of the big baddies of the Godzilla universe.  I was really entertained which is all you can ask.   There are some things folks will take issue with I'm sure in concerns to the plot but you are always having to stretch a little when you walk into a theater.  This sets up the upcoming Godzilla vs King Kong movie.  I'll be curious to see how that one plays out but I can definitely see those two having to face off against a greater threat.  After the prerequisite fight against each other of course.  Happy Halloween!

Godzilla 2014 Movie Review

I've been looking forward to the new Godzilla movie for some time.  I grew up watching the Godzilla and King Kong movies in the 70's and have been a huge fan ever since.  As they did with the 1998 Godzilla movie they went a different direction.  I really like the '98 version  (I think I'm in the minority there) and I'd put this on par with that one. 

The reboot of the origin is fine but I just want to see Godzilla fight and destroy stuff.  How he got to be isn't the most important thing in the world and I'm not looking for a lot of explanation.  As with many movies I got restless at the beginning waiting for the fun to begin.  But I know it is important to give us the back story so things make sense.  The fighty fighty was good and I thought they dealt with the "what, our military couldn't blast this thing to oblivion" pretty well though that is always a tricky part of these movies.  The "bad" monsters were fine as well.  Not sure they've actually named them as of yet.  While I enjoyed the movie very much I'm probably not going to sound overly excited.  It wasn't blown away but don't take that as a negative.  I think this movie is good and recommend it to everyone interested.  I could nit pick but it definitely isn't worth it. 

I'm going to start something new with giving things I review a rating.  I feel like I say the same things over and over when talking about whatever I may be reviewing and wonder if I'm really getting my point across.  I'll make it an easy 10 point scale.  I'll place my rating at the bottom of each review to make it easy.  I may even go back and add it to older posts.  With that I'll give this movie 7 out of 10 stars.  Go watch it and be open to the new way they take Godzilla.
