Random Wax: 2016 Donruss Football

2016 Donruss Football:  This is one of the smaller packs with only 16 cards but it was still fun.  Todd Gurley is a PC guy for me and those old Rams unis are great.  If only the borders had been colored in sync with his uni.  I'm really hoping Gurley can put up some good numbers this year.  Hard seeing him not be the stud he was in '17 and '18.
Chris Moore has managed to stick around with Baltimore for four seasons but only has 47 receptions in his career.  Kendall Fuller was a part of the Alex Smith trade to Washington and was able to pick up a Super Bowl ring this season as a Kansas City Chief.  Fun looking back and young players in these older packs and seeing how things worked out.
A kicker card!  He is good mind you - 2X All-Pro as well as a three-time Super Bowl winner.  Wow that Andrew Luck card would have looked a lot different last March.  So crazy that he is out of the sport now.
Tevin Coleman rushed 5 times for 28 yards in this year's Super Bowl but only two weeks after dislocating a shoulder he wasn't able to give his all for the 49ers. Terrell Suggs was on the other side of the ball in the Super Bowl for Kansas City.  He was released by Arizona in December and picked up by the Chiefs.  That was Suggs' second Super Bowl ring.  Allen Robinson had an excellent year for the Bears with 98 receptions.  These are nice cards and this was a fun pack.  I'm always on the lookout for more of these.

Random Wax: 2016 Donruss Football

I've always liked the 2016 Donruss Football cards so a discounted pack was an easy decision.  The highlight was this Hall of Fame Inducted Class of 2016 card. I had not pulled one in the blaster or retail box I'd opened.  I like the design quite a bit and I couldn't go wrong with Bret Favre.
Some decent stars made this a OK pull while Fran Tarkenton was the only retired legend I pulled.
The design, colors and photos will probably keep me coming back to this set.  The Farve insert was a great card and came as a nice surprise.

2016 Donruss Football Mega Box

I really enjoyed the 2016 Donruss Football cards when they came out so when I saw a reduced priced mega box at Wal-Mart I grabbed it.  These contain seven packs of '16 Donruss football and 2 packs of 2015 Gridiron Kings football (8 in each pack of both brands).  As I've already reviewed these I'll show off a few from the box that I like.
Love anything Earl Campbell and pulling a Bills' '87 Donruss was a big win.  The Barry Sanders All-Time Gridiron Kings card was really cool and was I am stoked to pull it.
Julio, Peyton and Gronk are all personal favorites so it was fun pulling these.
On to the Diamond Kings - this came out of the first pack.  Wow - a signature.  Whoo hoo!  Wait - Antwan Goodley - who...?  This rookie free agent hasn't even made it onto the field yet.  Ugh.  Still pulling a signature is pretty sweet even if no one may ever know who this guy was.
I like the Gridiron Kings cards.  The Fitzgerald was a a framed card.  I'm not necessarily a fan of those but with it being Fitzgerald I'm very happy to grab this card
Broadway Joe is always fun to pull and love all thegreen.  Great card.

2016 Donruss Football

Grabbed a retail blaster box of the 2016 Donruss Football.  I really liked the cards last year so I went whole hog right off the bat with this set.  There were a total of 88 cards in 11 packs.  I like the design and enjoyed my pull.

The fronts have the Donruss logo, player's name, position, and team at the top on a team colored background.  The border around the photo is in the same color but is broken up in stripes on the sides in appropriate team colors.  The picture takes up the rest of the front with the exception of the team logo in the bottom right of the photo.  Small touch but I like it.
I really like the backs which are done in team colors.  A football surrounds the card number and the team logo is done in black and white.  There is a player write-up as well as the 2015 and career stats for the player as well as additional player information (birthday, height, weight, college).  I love the retro feel of the back of these cards.  The first time in a long while I've liked the back of a card this much.
As for the pull I'm very happy.  I only grabbed three Falcons and two Bills players but there were plenty of stars in this box so I can't complain.  I love the retired players with the Steve Grogan and Archie Manning cards being the highlight for me.  The Gridiron Kings cards are one of my favorites.  I pulled DeMarco Murray which didn't thrill me any but it is still a nice card. I also grabbed a Megan Fox "Fans of the Game" card but was really hoping for a Daisy Ridley card but it wasn't to be. I like the "Production Line" card of Cam Newton as it harkens back to the old League Leaders cards.  The one relic card was a Jonathan Williams Rookie Phenom Jersey Relic card.  Not the greatest pull but he is a Bill so I'm good.  The other subsets and inserts were ok but didn't stand out.  There were still plenty of the inserts I didn't get but would love to.  They did a great job on this set - I would have enjoyed grabbing some of the others.  Check out the expansive checklist.  Bottom line is I like this set quite a bit and will definitely grab more.
