Random Wax: 2019 Topps Archive Baseball

2019 Topps Archives:  Archives is a set I really enjoy so it sounds like a good one for a Friday.  This pack was very similar to another pack I busted last year.  Still it is a fun pack and product.  With three different designs hopefully you like at least two out of three.  We'll kick this off with World Series Champion Juan Soto.  It was fun watching these guys win the Nationals' first championship.

That's my second Tatis Jr. I've pulled from an 2019 Archives pack.  Hoping to see good things from him.  Also got to see Tatis on a White Sox card thanks to Padrographs and the cards he sent me.  That post was up on the blog earlier this week.

Love the old photos like this one of Pirate great Honus Wagner.  Really makes these cards fun.  Fun pack and I can't wait for this year's offering.  

I'm a big fan of these Topps Magazine cards and pulling one with The Wizard on it makes it that much better.

Random Wax: 2019 Archives Baseball

2019 Archives Baseball:  Back to some baseball cards.  This week has been tough with all the talk of cheating.  If anyone can bring back some balance it is Hank Aaron.  Here he is showcased in the Topps 1958 design.  Not necessarily a favorite of mine but this is a good photo of Hank in that classic uni with the sleeve logo.

PC guys Chipper and Ichior really make this pack fun.  Rocket Roger Clemons as a Red Sox is always a good thing.  I know I'm a Red Sox guy but I've never been a natural fan of his but I have been warming up to him as of late.

Eric Hosmer is another PC guy and who wouldn't want Joey Votto on 1st base?  Really nice photo of Bob Gibson.  I didn't know he ever smiled.

That Will Cordero is one of the Montreal Expos 50th Anniversary inserts.  Duke Snider just looks like a classic baseball player in that photo.  This was a fun pack.  I like the Archives brand and there will be more of these in the future.

These Topps Magazine inserts are favorites of mine.  Very glad they are one per pack and I think I'll put this one on my list of insert sets to complete.

Random Wax: 2019 Topps Archives

Less than a week to go in the season and who isn't excited about the playoffs and 2019 Topps Archives?  This 2019 Topps Archives pack was fun with some great young players, current stars and retired greats.  This Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of the great young players coming up in the league now and has the Padres thinking of bigger and better things in the future.

Always fun pulling Ohtani cards.  He can definitely hit and we'll see if he can make a successful comeback on the mound.  A couple of retired greats join him.  I don't remember seeing many Early Wynn cards before so this was a nice find.

  1958 is not a favorite design of mine but still fun.

Yaz!  Always fun pulling an all-time favorite.  Rare to see him running and not hitting but I'll go with it.  McNeil is another hot rookie playing for the Mets this year who made a surprising second half run.

I love the design of these Topps Magazine cards.  It doesn't hurt that the two I've pulled were Ronald Acuna Jr. and Mike Trout.

2019 Topps Archives

I'm a big Archives fan and was looking forward to the 2019 Topps Archives so I was happy to see these in my local Wal-Mart this morning.  This year's set brings back the designs of 1958, 1975 and 1993.  None are real high as favorite designs go but any time we can throw past and present players on older looks I'm in.  Unlike Heritage we have variety in case you aren't enamored with one or more of the designs and that helps me with this set each year.

  The '75 design is colorful and one I've always liked.  Pulling Deion was a big plus here though the fact it is not an action shot is pretty disappointing.  

There are different All-Star cards in the set to include this 1958 Sports Magazine All-Star Mookie Betts as well as designs from '75 and '93.  The '93 base card design isn't bad but has always screamed for a logo and the player's position.  The great Nick Markakis shown here.  Mr. Consistent was up to 2341 hits prior to going down with an injury last month.

My least favorite of the designs the '58 but it is still a good representation of the original and will appeal to many collectors.  This was a fun pack with plenty of stars, retired greats and Atlanta Braves (and Josh Donaldson isn't even shown).  I'll look at more in the future for sure.

Is it bad that this is my favorite card of the pack?  I really like the design and I'm sure having Ronald Acuna Jr. on the front doesn't hurt.
