Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Baseball 4 Packs

1994 Ted Williams:  Mike Schmidt is probably the best third baseman of all-time.  10X Gold Glove winner, 3X MVP, 6X Silver Slugger, 12X All-Star, Hall of Fame, World Series Champion and World Series MVP.  He also led the league in home runs 8X.  Strong mustache game as well.

Hall of Famer Rod Carew was an 18X All-Star team member, tied for Yaz for 5th most all-time.  He also had 7 batting titles in his Hall of Fame career in which he batted .323 with a .393 OBP (5X league leader).  He was also the 1977 MVP when he led the league in WAR, runs, hits, triples, hitting (.388), OBP (.449), and OPS (1.019).  We don't hear near enough about this great hitter in MLB history.  

Jose Silva went 25-28 over 7 MLB seasons.  He best season was 11 wins with the Pirates in 2000.

Going North cards focus on players as they transitioned to the major leagues. Vada Pinson had 2,757 hits in 18 seasons batting .286.

Fun inclusions in this set include Negro League and Women of Baseball. Newt Allen played 20 seasons ending his career with a .288 average.

The backs highlight the five best seasons in a player's career and were a fun look back at their careers.  Poor Alma was "The Hitless Wonder".  Not sure why they didn't highlight her pitching stats.

These are the last of these packs from an eBay purchase.  Speaking of strong mustache game, Phil Garner is no slouch.  Garner played 16 seasons winning a championship with the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.  That team made We Are Family a rallying cry.  That was a fun team.

500 Club, Swinging for the Fences and this Ted Williams insert.  Ted Williams was a 2X Triple Crown winner and 2X MVP amongst so many mother accolades.  

3B Eddie Yost led the league in walks 6X.  I'll miss showing off these cards.  They've been so much fun and a great look back at greats of the game.

1994 Ted Williams:  Hall of Famer Eddie Matthews was a 12X All-Star.  He led the league in home run 3X, walks 3X and OBP 1X.  He finished his career with 512 home runs and won a World Series title with the Milwaukee Braves and with the Detroit Tigers.

Ted Williams himself as well as catching great and fan favorite Gary Carter sporting those great Expo unis and Juan Marichal.  If you are saying "wow those names are hard to read" you aren't wrong.  Even in hand they are very challenging.

Youngsters appear on Dawning of a Legacy (Cliff Floyd and Tim Salmon only) and The Campaign cards.

We get Negro League cards as well as a nice-looking checklist card which is a Dan Gardiner Collection (#54063).

The backs highlight the best five seasons of a player's career.  I do like these.

Goin North highlights players as they readied to start their MLB careers.  I like these as you don't always get to see players from this era in their minor league unis.

Mike Schmidt Swingin' for the Fences, Women of Baseball and Etched in Stone.  The latter looks at highlights of a player's career.

Frank Howard, Gil Hodges, Nellie Fox and Walter Johnson.  It's fun showing off these cards.  So many players we aren't used to seeing on modern cardboard.

Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Baseball 4 Packs

1994 Ted Williams:  Who doesn't love Gary Carter?  He was an amazing defensive catcher, he hit well including 324 home runs.  Only negative is his winning a World Series with the Mets.

Yes, the names on these are almost impossible to read.  It is very frustrating.  Catfish Hunter is a 5X World Series champion winning three with Oakland and two with the Yanks.

A young looking Jason Giambi on the The Campaign insert which highlights a player's journey to the majors.

Floyd and Salmon are part of the Dawning Legacy inserts.  Both had good careers and had been in the league only a few seasons when this set came out.

Etched in Stone inserts look at specific accomplishments or milestones within a player's career.  We get ladies of the sport with this Women in Baseball insert.  Bob Horner graces the Swinging for the Fences.

Negro Leagues inserts give us cards for greats from the era we don't normally see on cardboard.

The backs are fine with plenty of information and they highlight top seasons from the players.

Rod Carew in those great old school Minnesota unis.  I really enjoy looking at his stats.  He was so good.  Rookie of the Year, 18X All-Star, 7X batting champ and a 1X MVP.  Amazing career.

1994 Ted Williams:  What can't you say about Ty Cobb?  4,189 hits and a career .366 batting average which is tops all time.

I'd like to see team logos here but I my only complain is being able to read the players names.  Even in hand it's rough.  Otherwise, it's just fun seeing so many players you may not see on new cardboard today.

They did show off some youngsters including Billy Wagner who was recently announced as part of the 2025 MLB Hall of Fame class.

Cliff Floyd and Tim Salmon each had their own inserts sets.  Salmon is a player I collect so this was a win for me.  I like the variety of photos that included some from the minor leagues.

The backs are good.  Seeing some of the player's top years in stats is fun and the write-up works.

Going North shows off players when they were ready to go to the majors.  I like the inclusion of the  All-American Girls Professional Baseball League players.  Bob Horner is my favorite all-time favorite player so his inclusion on the Swingin' for the Fences inserts is great.

We also get a great look at players from the Negro Leagues.

These are fun cards and there are so many greats from the game.  I got these for less than $1 per pack last year so these were a big win.

Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL 3 Packs

1994 Roger Staubach: This is the last of these which I've been sharing over the last year and a half plus.  I'll really miss these. One of my favorite sets.  We'll kick it off with Jack Lambert who looks like he wants to kick somebody's butt.  Has to be before the first snap.  His uniform is way too clean.  His trophy case is filled to the brim and man did he scare the heck out of opponents.  Big fan.

Love all the all-time greats we get in this set.  Many from past generations you'll never see again on cardboard.  The design is so simple but it works.  The players take center stage.  Love the muted Buck Buchanan photo showing the missing tooth.  Screams a tough guy in the trenches.

The inserts let us see some of the greats on other cards.  Three amazing QBs here in nice photos. We have Etched in Stone and Golden Arms.

They had no idea of the legacy Bret Favre would leave when this Dawning of a Legacy card was made.  He had just finished the third season of his Hall of Fame career.  The POGs are great additions to the set in card form.

A few players I'd never heard of like Andy Robustelli.  Props to anyone who knew of this defensive stalwart from the 50s and 60s.  Six-time All-Pro by the way and nice photo.

I enjoy seeing the coaches get their due on these Chalkboard Legends inserts.

These are great cards and players.  So much fun and so many memories.  Wish we could see more sets like this one.  We'll end it with some of the great arms, and legs, from the game.

1994 Ted Williams Baseball (4 Packs)

 1994 Ted Williams: We'll kick off these packs with the man the set is from, Teddy Ballgame.  What can you say about this guy.  Amazing hitter that never disappointed.  His career .344 batting average and .482 on base percentage really stand out to me.  The latter is the best all-time for a career.  I do think Ted Williams owned the company that made these cards.

I paid less than $1 a pack for 20 of these packs which I'll show off over time.  The fronts aren't bad but it is so hard to read the player names.  Team logos from the eras of each player would have been a nice touch as well but overall, they are solid.  Red Schoendienst, Eddie Matthews and Walter Johnson grace these three.  Fun seeing greats of the game on newer cardboard.  Also liked both styles here which shows older players with a muted photo in the background as well as the primary photo.

The Campaign cards showcased youngsters in the game.  Johnson was great defensively, a 2X all-star and won a World Series title while Michael Tucker had a career spanning 12 seasons hitting .256 over that timeframe.

I really like the Women of Baseball inserts which true to the title showcase the women who played professionally.  Etched in Stone displays career highlights of players.  This card talks about Maris' 1961 season and the toll it took on him.  A little different take but a good read.

Swingin' for the Fences are fun speaking to specific hitting performances of baseball greats.  I wasn't familiar with Joe Adcock's accomplishment.  Seeing thing I don't know about the sport is fun.

These Gene Locklear Collection inserts are pretty cool.  The art isn't perfect but it works for me.  Eight players in this portion of the set which is a continuation of a 1993 Ted Willams baseball insert set.

Goin' North looks at players at the beginning of their MLB career.  That Brian Hunter is part of the Dan Gardiner Collection inserts which includes a Michael Jordan insert.  Tim Salmon and Cliff Floyd are both showcased in the Dawning of a Legacy cards.  I'm a Tim Salmon fan so I'm in.  Both were worthy inclusions.

Here we have the backs of two MLB players as well as one of the ladies best.  The backs are good.  I like write-ups and enjoy seeing the best five seasons in stats.

The Negro Leagues are a great inclusion in this set.  So many great players who would otherwise not get time on cardboard.

These are fun.  Good variety, not all the players are ones you'd expect, and it's great seeing all these all-time greats.  I look forward to showing off more of these over time.
