Random Wax: 2022 Contenders Football

2022 Contenders:  Kick this one off with Tom Terrific.  If you want to look for a chink in his armor maybe it is that he was an All-Pro only three times.  That said he played in an era with some amazing quarterbacks including Peyton Manning (7) and Aaron Rogers (4) who took some of those selections away from him.  No arguments here.

Really good pull in this pack.  I'm a fan of Mahomes and Henry which helps.

Nice retired great appearance.  Ricky was not a guy you wanted to have to bring down by yourself. I like the photo.

Nice MVP Contenders cards.  I like the Power players inserts as well and I like Taylor.

Don't think I'm a fan of Round Numbers.  Nice George Pickens card and another Power Players.  

When will Justin Fields and the Bears figure it out.  Been a rough few seasons for them both.

Nice Game Day Ticket.  Adams has to be wondering what's going on with his quarterbacks as three different QBs have started games already due to injuries and performance.

Fun pack of cards and a really good pull.  I pulled a Winning Ticket Mahomes which is appropriate.  This pack is a winner.

Random Wax: 2022 Contenders Football

 2022  Contenders:  Hurts and the Eagles aren't quite in high gear yet but they should still be a favorite to come out of the NFC though I'm sure it won't be easy.

Plenty of star power here.  I wish Jonathan Taylor's situation had played out differently.  He's too good not to be playing.  I get the plight of the running back but not seeing one of the game's best is never fun.

Look at this string of quarterbacks in my inserts.  Wow.  Contenders isn't a large set so the pulls should be vconsistent but this felt like a really strong pack.

I do like the vertical take here on the Game Day Ticket.  Not a perfect look but it's different good.

Feels like there were more inserts in these 2022 Contenders packs than in years past.  I could be wrong but that's the sense I get without going back and really digging into it.  Power Players are fun giving us a fun way of showcasing players.  Garrett Wilson went into the season with so much hope but wow how things changed in a matter of four plays.  Burrow is hurting and the Bengals are too.  They've struggled to start a season before and come back but this feels different.  Hope they can make something out of the season but it seems like a big ask.

I'm very happy with this pack. Plenty of stars and some good inserts.  Enjoy your Sunday of football!

2022 Contenders Football

2022 Contenders Football:  The draft and dreams start tonight with the 2023 NFL Draft.  We all have hope these guys can take our teams to another level.  We'll kick this off with the reigning quarterback championship and Texas Tech alum, Patrick Mahomes.  Really feels like he's been in the league more than six years.

I like Contenders but I'm in the minority.  It's so hard when you lock yourself into a certain way of doing things and then having to figure out how to keep things fresh.  This year shows how it can feel much like past years.  I'm okay with this look but I'm starting to tire some with the lack of creativity.

These Supernatural and Power Players are a nice change of pace.  Lots of color and nice designs.  Pierce rushed for over 900 yards for the Texans for a nice start to his career.

I like the backs overall.  These are from three different cards with the Mahomes being a base card while Brady is a Legendary insert and the McCaffrey is a MVP Contender.

I like this Game Day Ticket insert.  It showcases a retired great, shows off a fun "ticket" design and is a Super Bowl game photo.

Even if this isn't my favorite Contenders design, it was a fun pack of cards.  The inserts are fun and the pull is solid.  Good luck to your teams tonight.
