1999-2000 Topps Basketball

01-02 Fleer Ultra:  This is one of some different packs I purchased last year on eBay.  My first time ever looking at this set.  Brent Barry could shoot the ball.  Maybe not what you'd call a scorer but he shot 40% from three for his career across 13 seasons. Led the league in shooting from deep once.
Only seven cards in this pack and maybe not a pack that will thrill you but there are many solid players here.  Antonio Davis is a one-time all-star and big part of some of those really good Indiana teams in the 90s.
Otis Thorpe was a guy who was easy to enjoy watching play.  He could rebound, play defense and shot a high percentage.  He was a one-time all-star and won one championship with the Houston Rockets prior to being traded to the Trail Blazers as part of the deal that netted the Rockets Clyde Drexler. Never enjoy doing math on these old cards.  Why card companies took so long to put averages instead of totals on the back of NBA cards I'll never know.
Not a great design.  No logo and it feels a bit simplistic.  Nothing draws you in.
Included in the pack was a schedule for games on TNT and TBS.  I like it.
Photos overall are good and some are really good.  No complaints there.  The Antonio Davis is my favorite.
The backs are solid really.  I like them.  Lots of color, the additional photo and a logo.  Just needed averages instead of totals for the season.  There was a contest you could play. Looks like you had about a week's time for the player on the card to reach the objective.  In this case it was Kobe to get a double-double in a game.  I may not be a fan of the set but it was still a fun pack of cards.

BREAKDOWN:
7 – Total Cards
1 – Daily Double Kobe Bryant

  1. Otis Thorpe was a favorite of mine way back when. And I think I only ever bought one pack of these, as the design did absolutely nothing for me at the time.

  2. Is NBA Tip-Off the equivalent product to Opening Day in baseball?

  3. The schedule and the game card are the highlights of the pack. Ha.

  4. Hey cool, stats on the back! This set took a step backwards from the year prior. And I'm also thinking NBA Tip Off was it's own set, the Opening Day equivalent. Thanks for showing off the cards!

    1. Interesting. I'll have to look into that. Nice concept if it is the Opening Day equivalent. Thanks.
